Hardie® Backer EZ GRID 6 mm for floors
Have confidence that your job will last – resisting rot, swelling and warping when exposed to moisture – when you choose 6 mm Hardie® Backer board. It's the water-resistant cement backerboard that works perfectly with all types of tile or natural stone flooring.
Our light, easy-to-cut, no-mesh board features our exclusive EZ Grid recessed pattern, making installation even easier. Install it over an existing timber floor or in conjunction with underfloor heating to optimise heat efficiency. The slim-line 6 mm elevation prevents floor build up and minimizes the transition between floors.
The Hardie® Backer 6 mm board is the durable water-resistant alternative to plywood for tiling on floors. Just like 12 mm Hardie® Backer board, it has excellent adhesive properties, ensuring that whatever ceramic or stone tile you use, it will hold strong with applied weights of up to 200 kg/m².
Hardie® Backer 12 mm cement board for walls
Use the durable, water-resistant alternative to plasterboard for tiling on walls. Our 12 mm thick cement backerboard for tile and stone doesn't swell, rot or warp, so that your tiling work stays put. 12 mm Hardie® Backer board is strong: boasting the highest flexibility and up to 3x the compressive strength compared to competitive boards.
Hardie® Backer board fastens directly to any floor, wall or wooden frame and lines up perfectly with any dry wall, making it particularly quick and easy to install.
Use Hardie® Backer 12 mm board on the floor when additional height is needed. Its fire-resistant properties also make it the ideal choice of wall panelling behind a boiler, or even behind a multi-fuel or wood-burning stove.

Which should I use, Hardie® Backer 6 mm or Hardie® Backer 12 mm cement backerboard?
Hardie® Backer 6 mm is used on floors as it decreases the transition to other surfaces. It can also be used on masonry walls, or on a stud wall. When placed on a stud wall, an extra noggin is required. Hardie® Backer 12 mm cement backerboard is ideal for using on stud walls and provides enhanced impact resistance. It can also be used on the floor if addition height build up is required. Both products hold up to 200 kg/sqm of tile, so either or is appropriate for heavy tile.
